April, 2010 – Transas has launched its new DNV certified solution for direct connection and communication from Transas ECDIS/RADAR on the Bridge to the shore via Transas Firewall and Antivirus Protection system, TFAP. TFAP is used for safe transfer of data, such as Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs), chart updates weather forecasts etc.

Transas ECDIS users already enjoyed the possibility of online ordering of ENCs and updates directly for an ECDIS with the Transas Chart Assistant software. The new type-approval guarantees direct connection and communication with full security of this operation through Transas Firewall and Antivirus Protector (TFAP).

TFAP is based on IEC60945 certified hardware with incorporated Firewall & Antivirus software. It confidently blocks unauthorized access to system network and data as well as protects the whole system from viruses.

Transas dual ECDIS with online connection via TFAP has already been installed on two vessels of Five Star Shipping Company. Both vessels navigate paperless since the launch, and receive ENCs and chart updates via broadband connection directly onboard in to ECDIS.
