Transas upgrades Surabaya port’s VTS

May, 2010 – Transas has completed VTS system upgrade in one of the busiest Indonesian port – port of Surabaya. Contract is honoured by Indonesian Ministry of Sea Transportation. All scope of work was coordinated and controlled by Transas representative in Indonesia – PT MultiIntegra.

The existing VTS was installed by Transas in 2004. Now it has been upgraded with 2 AIS Base stations, VHF station and 2 radars, completed with Rutter radar processor for small targets detection. Fiber optic link communication allows controlling the situation from Jakarta HQ using Transas Navi-Monitor. Surabaya VTS is fitted up with an operator's workstation and remote monitor with large screen display so that operators can easily observe the situation from 3 different operator's workplaces.

"Transas VTS offers wide opportunities to upgrade to fully redundant system with no need of system's replacement. Now Surabaya port is able to monitor all vessel traffic 24 hours round the clock. The system will contribute much to port's safety", said Mr Tony Budiono, Head of Surabaya District Navigation Sea Transportation.

To date, 8 large ports in Indonesia (Medan, Teluk Bayur, Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Tanjung Datuk, Balikpapan and Makassar) are already furnished with Transas VTS systems and we are proud of that. Beside those ports, the busiest small port Tanjung Balai Karimun which is close to Malaka Strait is also equipped with Transas VTS. 4 TrAN Viewer systems are to be delivered in the nearest time to Rescue Coordination Centers on Bali, Kupang, Tual-Ambon and Merauke-Papua islands. Long time collaboration testifies Transas reputation as a supplier of flexible, reliable and cost-effective solutions.

Surabaya is the main seaport in the eastern region of Indonesia and one of the busiest in the country. Being a significant economic gateway, the port is gradually being developed into an international port.
