Automatic Identification Systems
The main purpose of the AIS is to ensure collision avoidance and improve safety at sea. It also helps in the efficient navigation of ships, environmental protection and adds to the VTMS operation. At the same time, amendments to the SOLAS convention approved by the IMO and a new International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code require considerable improvement of port and offshore installation security. The effective processing of AIS information contributes significantly to the security of port and offshore installations. It should be noted that an AIS Base Station is a high-end sensor which has rather limited human interface capability. To process AIS Base Station information and make it suitable for use by the personnel, it is necessary to have a processing and presentation system. Being a developer and manufacturer of both parts required for the turnkey implementation of AIS technology, Transas can offer both, the AIS Base Station and the processing and presentation system based on its well-known Navi-Harbour (VTS) or Navi-Monitor (Port Monitoring) systems.
