AIS Network

Systems based on AIS technologies are becoming increasingly important in ensuring safety at sea in the coastal areas and in preventing ship collisions. Transas AIS Network is the shore-based AIS infrastructure designed to support the AIS communication between ocean-going vessels, port vessels, Vessel Traffic Management and Information System, and various clients such as:

  • Port Authorities
  • Maritime Administration
  • Coast Guard
  • Marine Exchanges
  • Ship Agents

AIS Network functions:

  • Transparent connection of AIS Network clients to a multi AIS base station environment
  • AIS data management and routing
  • AIS data exchange with other national or international AIS Network systems
  • AIS data logging in SQL-based database for further retrieval and data processing
  • Centralised system configuration, control and diagnostics
  • Presentation of AIS information on the client workstations on electronic charts
  • Presentation of AIS information using standard Internet web browser

By using the AIS networks, coastal services can promptly establish digital links with ships within the AIS network operating range, sending them brief messages regarding weather, changes in aids to navigation and other safety issues. The AIS also enables communication with ships which were normally beyond the VHF range.

Communication with ships can also be provided via the Internet, which will allow every client registered in the AIS network to communicate with the ship of interest.

The AIS Network database server stores all the data circulated in the AIS network for later recovery and analysis.

Networking of AIS base stations is the most reliable method of using AIS technologies. The AIS Network guarantees coordinated operation of all the AIS base stations, absence of collisions and effective use of VHF data link and data communications channels in a given area. AIS Network systems act in a centralised manner to solve problems common for the given area, e.g., transmission of DGNSS corrections via VHF data link, or work with AtoN.
