Bulgarian National VTMIS project

Under the contract signed in November 2002, Transas delivered, installed and launched a modern complex comprising completed radar, GMDSS and AIS coverage of the Bulgarian coast. The VTMIS equipment is distributed among 33 Bulgarian coastal sites. Owing to the introduction of the VTMIS, the entire Bulgarian offshore area is monitored and controlled at distances of up to 50 nautical miles.

The supplied system includes:

  • Four control centres (4 sites)
  • Three radars (first stage) plus twelve radars (second stage)
  • Nineteen operator positions
  • Nine remote terminals
  • Five GMDSS A1 stations (5 sites)
  • Six AIS base stations (6 sites)
  • DGPS reference station (one site)
  • Two hydro-meteo stations (2 sites)
  • Three radio direction finders (3 sites)
  • VTMIS database (2 sites)
  • Audio and VTMIS/AIS information recording facilities (recording/playback subsystem)
  • Telecommunication network (microwave links [14 sites], wireless links [29 sites], LAN [33 sites]).

The launch of the VTMIS in Bulgaria has strategic importance for the country, contributing to the ongoing development of the Bulgarian coastal infrastructure and business prosperity of the region.
