Regional Maritime Safety System

Environmental protection, safety of navigation and readiness to combat oil spills are very important for all countries worldwide. Transas has taken up a challenge to meet the new requirements in oil spill preparation by establishing maritime safety systems all over the world.

The Gulf of Finland is an area of intensive vessel traffic, with oil and oil products forming a considerable part of the total transported cargo. Several research studies suggest an increase in oil transportation of up to 2000 million tons per year in the Gulf of Finland.

The implementation of the RMSS global project has reduced the risk of vessel collisions, especially for oil tankers, increasing the safety of navigation and affording greater protection to the environment in the Gulf of Finland area.

RMSS Components

RMSS supplied by Transas is a sole software and hardware complex with a high level of integration which includes:

  • Regional VTS control centre
  • Four local VTS control centres
  • 13 radars
  • 13 operator stations
  • VHF communication systems
  • VTS Database systems
  • CCTV systems
  • Coastal GMDSS
  • AIS Network.
