VTMIS in South Wales

In March 2004, Transas completed the installation of a modern and state-of-the art Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) system for Associated British Port (ABP) South Wales.

Associated British Ports (ABP) is the UK’s leading and largest ports group owns and operates 21 ports around the UK and handles approximately a quarter of the country’s seaborne trade.

The original contract was awarded by ABP after extensive market assessment and a comprehensive tendering procedure concluded that the Transas Navi-Harbour VTMIS system would be the most ideal and cost-effective system available to assist ABP in meeting our responsibilities as the Statutory Harbour Authority.

The Transas system is operational 24hrs per day 365 days per year and provides the duty Vessel Traffic Services Officer with navigational information such as vessel position, vessel movements, timings and speed. The VTMIS system also collects and records data to support ABP, as the Statutory The South Wales VTS system includes:

• Three operator workstations
• Four remote controlled radars
• Eight remote controlled CCTV cameras
• VHF communication systems
• Telecommunication network.
