STCW-97 Compliance

The Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator has been developed in line with the Convention Requirements.

In addition, the simulator incorporates 3D animation capabilities for the operating machinery as per recommendations B-V/1 (p.2, p.4, p.6). Following recommendation (p.15) we have developed models of concrete tankers currently in operation.

In compliance with part I/12, the simulator enables:

  • training in maritime academies and coastal centres;
  • competency checks at the maritime administrations and crewing companies;
  • onboard training and demonstration of competency.

In compliance with A-I/12, the Transas simulator features include:

  • operational capabilities and limitations of shipborne equipment, physical realism appropriate to training objectives (p.1, pp.2);
  • behaviour of shipboard systems imitated by the mathematical model and the user interface (p.1, pp.3);
  • instructor capabilities enabling monitoring of the operational environment (p.1, pp.4), tracking of exercise conduct procedure and debriefing of trainees (p.1, pp.6).

The simulator allows basic watch and chief officer training within the framework of A-II/1, A-II/2 in respect of:

  • cargo planning, safe loading and unloading cargoes;
  • prevention of sea pollution;
  • maintaining ship stability and seaworthiness;
  • study of the ship design and systems.

The simulator has a number of capabilities which allow basic watch and chief engineer training within the framework of A-III/1, A-III/2 in respect of:

  • control of pump and piping systems;
  • operation of ballast and cargo handling system;
  • maintaining ship stability and seaworthiness;
  • study of hydromechanics.

The simulator allows special training of the ship masters, officers and the crew within the framework of A-V/1 in respect of:

  • characteristics of transferred media (p.2, p.11, p.18, p.26);
  • tanker design and equipment (p.10, p.17, p.28, p.30);
  • ship operations (p.12, p.19, p.31);
  • emergency procedures (p.14, p.21, p.33).

For achieving the full compliance with the Convention Requirements, the LCHS has been supplemented with the Load Control System module, making the simulator compliant with requirements of B-I/12 p.40 in respect of:

  • effective operation environment, including cargo control station for handling and stowage of cargoes (pp.1);
  • modelling of ship stability and hull stresses in the course of cargo handling operations (pp.2);
  • imitation of fluid transfer operations and related calculations (pp.3).
