Radar/ARPA training

Navigational simulators in any configuration allow training in modern radar and ARPA operation skills. For this purpose, both computer imitators and actual radar displays connected to the simulator can be used.

Transas can create radar scenes of any water area in the world at the customer’s request. The simulators use an accurate mathematical model of radar signal propagation, which enhances the sense of reality and training efficiency.

During the development of this product we were guided by international standards, the major guideline being STCW’95. By the end of the courses the trainees will be able to perform all the required tasks:

  • Radar observation and plotting techniques;
  • Collision avoidance based on IMO-defined regulations and alarms;
  • Situational awareness including determining target ranges, bearings, courses, and speeds;
  • Carrying out target-related calculations, such as CPA, TPA, course and speed changes, and
  • Setting up and maintaining ARPA/radar displays.

Capabilities

  • Imitates displays of the following radar types: Bridge Master II, Bridge Master E, Furuno FR2100, Nucleus 6000;
  • Real ARPA/radar units can be incorporated using Transas Radar Imitator Board
  • The instructor radar/ARPA allows the instructor to see the current radar situation in any point of the gaming area, and from any ship involved in the exercise;
  • Ensures full ARPA functionality in the simulation mode with the capability to track up to 60 targets;
  • Real ARPA keyboard can be connected
  • Provides trial manoeuvre operation mode.
